Random Movie Stuff…

Not really a review today more along the lines of a few things I wanted to point out that I have seen in the world of movies this week.

1.   http://flixchatter.wordpress.com/ is one of the coolest movie blogs that I have seen recently.  I don’t know much about the blog but I stumbled across a really cool article that was linked on IMDB about movie accents.  I would highly suggest checking it out.

2.   I am not sure how I feel about having 10 Best Picture Nominees this year.  I have seen about half of the films nominated at this point (Up, Inglorious Basterds, District 9, Avatar, The Hurt Locker) and I want to see the majority of the remaining films.  I just think that having to many nominations takes away a little from the prestige of being a best picture nominee.  If I were to choose right now and only based off of the films that I have seen I would choose Inglorious Basterds.  My reason is that it was a serious achievement in film-making.  The acting, direction and technical parts of the film were all spot on and the film was easily Tarantinos best! Being on the watch for more coverage of the Oscar to come here at “The Bottle City of Reed!”

3.  I am extremely annoyed at the new trend that everything new coming out of Hollywood now is supposedly going to now be in 3D.  I can appreciate Avatar as a phenomenal technical achievement and I think you should see it in 3D but I do not think that just because Avatar was one of the most successful movies of all time that every new movie has to be 3D.  To explore the world best 3D worked I don’t know if it will translate as well to other films and I don’t know if I would even want it to.  I would rather filmmakers to concentrate on quality storylines and high quality images (like IMAX).  In addition I hate that people want 3D technology to enter the home.  I have enough of an argument against the implementation of this technology that I will save that for a future entry.

4.  I have wanted to get into LOST for the past few years and this year I finally did when my wife purchased the first 5 seasons for me this Christmas.  We have got through the first 4 seasons but tonight is the start of the 6th and last season.  I wish we were caught up but I am just going to have to watch out for spoilers on Facebook and the different forums that I visit.

Hope you had fun with my random thought!  Now it is time to go watch Zombieland!

Again please check out http://flixchatter.wordpress.com/ it is a cool site!

Later!

For my first movie review I have chosen to review last summers smash hit Star Trek.  I hope you enjoy!!

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

It has been about 8 months since the release of J.J. Abrams re-imagining of the Star Trek franchise.   I have never been much of a Star Trek fan and have always been a little more interested in Star Wars but when I saw the first teaser trailer of this new Star Trek movie about a year before it’s initial release I knew it was going to be awesome! What follows will give just a little hint of what I liked about Abrams reboot but be warned it is filled with potential spoilers.

Unlike other similar reboots Abrams Star Trek does not try to ignore past continuity (and piss off hardcore Trekkers).  The film uses time travel to create a pocket universe separate from the original Star Trek universe. The story begins with a new bad guy,  Nero attacking a Federation ship in deep space.  What we as the viewers discover is that this bad guy, Nero is from the future and he Continue Reading »

Well you must be really bored if you have found yourself here reading my first entry into what may become a regular blog or possibly an unsuccessful attempt at a regular blog :-) I have been kicking around the idea of starting a blog for probably about a year but I really wasn’t sure what I would blog about or if anyone would be interested in reading anything I have to write about.  As far as what I am going to write about I have decided that will vary probably with every post but some of the topics will include my family, movies, comics, books, gaming and other hobbies.  As far as if anyone decides to read this post I have decided that is really unimportant at this point.  Sure I would like people to see what I have to say but mainly I would like to improve my written communication which I am well aware (as I am sure you are now)  is fairly lacking.

So who am I?  I am at this point a 27-year-old guy living in Northern Kentucky with my lovely wife Amanda and my two beautiful children Gabriel (3) and Abigail (1).  I am a graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelors of Arts in History.  I have spent the past three years as Project Specialist with The Nielsen Company (something I will rarely talk about because it wouldn’t be to exciting).   As far as interests are concerned I am a huge movie, comic book, and video game geek.  I won’t really get into any specifics in this initial blog but hopefully I can explore those parts of my life individually because they will be a little easier to explain as I go along.

I think that is enough of an introduction for tonight.  I hope some of you find this at least a little interesting and hopefully it will get much better.  Regardless your in for a ride!
